VNUS Closure (radiofrequency ablation)
Radiofrequency was one of the first thermal methods developed to treat the saphenous vein and help eliminate the source of venous reflux. However, laser technology proved to be much more effective. The documented failure rates of radiofrequency closure are between 15 to 20%. These failure rates were identified during independent studies not sponsored by the radiofrequency machine manufacturers. The independent studies done on lasers demonstrate significantly less failure rates (2 to 5%). At Vein Institute of Utah we use Endovenous Laser ablation to treat incompetent saphenous veins because we have found it is the treatment that works the best.
